Scott E. Moran is a principal in the firm. His practice focuses on representing businesses and their owners in a wide range of corporate legal issues, with extensive experience in the following areas: international (primarily Latin America & Western Europe), telecommunications, entertainment, media (television, mobile and broadband) and U.S. and international sports.
Scott’s practice primarily involves transactional matters. He has substantial experience representing both corporate and individual clients in all aspects of a transaction, primarily the drafting and negotiation of agreements, the formation and structuring of corporate entities, and general legal and business advice. Scott’s experience covers the range from multi-billion dollar deals to smaller transactions, assisting clients in the operation of their businesses and the transactions that support them. He has extensive experience in the following areas: asset purchases and sales; mergers and acquisitions; joint ventures and partnerships; content, technology and software licensing; broadcast and cable television programming distribution; mobile, broadband, and new media content; telecommunications services and equipment sales; media and telecom regulatory affairs (U.S., Latin America and Europe); government compliance (contracting, antitrust, FCPA); sports club/franchise acquisitions; professional athlete, sponsor, marketing, and vendor contracts; professional-sports player, staff, management, league, and governing body/federation relationships and issues; press/media issues; club and event operations; game operations and broadcasts (television, radio, and internet); stadium/venue construction and management issues; international ventures and partnerships; international trade; consulting services; operations and maintenance services; utility interconnection; confidentiality agreements; supply-chain management; corporate marketing; physical security; and external affairs.
Prior to joining BFV, Scott was Senior Counsel at Turner Broadcasting, negotiating and managing programming-distribution deals for Turner’s twelve cable television networks in the U.S., including CNN, Headline-News, TNT, TBS, Turner Classic Movies, and Cartoon Network, and supporting the company’s new media efforts and Latin American networks. Before his work with Turner, he served for six years as counsel for BellSouth/AT&T with the company’s Latin America and large business/enterprise divisions. Scott’s legal career in Atlanta began as an associate with Troutman Sanders LLP in the firm’s international and corporate practice groups. He has also acted since 1999 as International Counsel for the Atlanta Silverbacks professional soccer club, working closely with its foreign players and club-affiliates in Europe and Latin America, its league and club relationships in the U.S., and with Atlanta's international community. Scott has recently been involved as legal counsel for Atlanta's efforts to be a host city for the United States bid to secure the FIFA World Cup™ for 2018 or 2022 the formation of the new North American Soccer League and a project to return professional men's soccer to the Atlanta area. He moved to Atlanta in 1998 after clerking for a federal judge in the United States District Court in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Prior to and during his legal career, he served as a Military Intelligence officer in the U.S. Army from 1990-2001, retiring with the rank of Captain.
Scott was admitted to the Georgia Bar in 1997 and the District of Columbia Bar in 1999. He is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, the Atlanta Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and the Georgia Hispanic Bar Association. Scott has served on the Board of Directors of the Georgia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, been a youth mentor for the Latin American Association, and appeared in local print, radio and television speaking on legal, business, sports, and community matters.
Scott was born in New York and raised in Puerto Rico in a bi-cultural Irish and Spanish family. He lives in Atlanta with his wife Gretchen and two boys, Liam and Oliver. In addition to his legal and community work and spending time with his family, Scott enjoys soccer, football, scuba, riding, travel and reading. He is a native Spanish linguist, is conversant in Portuguese and has limited proficiencies in French and Italian.
